Opdracht omschrijving
The TU/e is looking for a Projectmanager Drive route 2. You will work within the service Education & Student Affairs (ESA), within the team Teacher Support & Quality Assurance. There’s a strong link with the program manager of the program for educational innovation: Drive. Functional reporting is to the program manager (Tessa Askamp); organisational and HR matters are reported to the department manager (Hylke Annema).
The TU/e DRIVE program fosters innovation in education through the use of educational technology (EdTech). The program focuses on five strategic themes:
• AI in education: Education for, with, and despite AI.
• E-assessment: Innovative assessment options using technology, including assessment of competence and skill development, and a focus on challenge-based learning, collaborative learning and (peer) feedback.
• Learning Analytics: Use of data with the purpose of understanding and optimizing learning and teaching.
• Flexibilization: Accessibility of educational resources for students and teachers beyond the course level, and opportunities for flexible learning and learning pathways.
• Virtualization: Learning and teaching of knowledge and/or skills that are not possible with current (on‑campus) resources, including XR, VR, innovative lab education and gamification.
To realize these ambitions, the Drive program initiates pilot projects led by multidisciplinary teams of educational advisors, IT specialists and educators. These pilots are designed to test innovative approaches. They require structured project management to ensure timely delivery, stakeholder alignment and measurable impact.
TU/e seeks an experienced project manager to address a critical need: while our educational advisors are subject-matter experts, they lack the project management expertise required to successfully execute complex innovation projects. The requested role will:
• Provide hands-on project management for one pilot project (the Socratic AI Tutor), ensuring the project meets its objectives on time and within scope (0.6 FTE).
• Offer process guidance and coaching to the leads of four additional pilot projects (GraphSearch, IGuideMe, Course Insights, Automated Feedback & Assessment), helping them develop the skills to manage their projects independently (0.2 FTE).
Without this support, there is a risk of delays, misalignment, or suboptimal outcomes for these high-potential initiatives. The project manager will play a key role in bridging the gap between educational innovation and operational execution.
The project manager will support the TU/e Drive program with hands-on project management tasks as well as on-the-job coaching. The role is divided into three core areas:
Tasks include:
• Team management: Guide the team, divide tasks and responsibilities, ensure all activities align well.
• Planning and coordination: Structuring project activities, defining milestones, and managing timelines, risks and dependencies.
• Stakeholder collaboration: Facilitating alignment between educators, developers, researchers, and support staff to ensure smooth project execution.
• Progress monitoring: Tracking deliverables, resource allocation, and budget adherence, with regular reporting to the Drive program leadership.
• Evaluation and scaling: Drafting evaluation guidelines, analyzing pilot results, and contributing to plans for broader implementation.
• Teacher engagement: Developing and executing a strategy to attract and retain teacher participation in the pilot.
Tasks include:
• Project structuring: Helping project leads define clear goals, scope, deliverables and governance structures.
• Workshop facilitation: Organizing and leading sessions to improve project planning, risk management and decision-making.
• Knowledge sharing: Encouraging consistency and cross-project learning across the Drive program’s pilot initiatives.
• Skill development: Coaching educational advisors in practical project management skills, enabling them to take ownership of their projects.
To strengthen the Drive program as a whole, the project manager will reflect with the Drive team on ways to improve the way of working and organization of the program.
Please note: Given the nature of the present assignment, it is not possible to register for this independently as a self-employed person. Registration is only possible on the basis of secondment, or as an intermediary, whereby the intermediary indemnifies TU/e against any claims from employees or third parties related to an employment relationship with TU/e.
The Tenderer must demonstrate, by means of an extract from the Chamber of Commerce, that it is permitted to supply personnel and complies with the requirements of the Dutch Temporary Employment Act (Waadi).
The requested temporary position concerns a role that also exists within TU/e employment. In accordance with the legislation on equal remuneration, this position is classified in salary scale 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten).
We are looking for a seasoned project manager with a coaching mindset. You thrive in dynamic, multidisciplinary environments and have a passion for driving innovation in education.
You are:
• A natural collaborator, able to align diverse stakeholders (educational advisors, IT specialists, educators) and foster teamwork.
• Impact-driven, with a genuine interest in educational technology and innovation.
Key competencies:
• Background in education, innovation or technology.
• Skilled in structuring projects, defining milestones and ensuring timely delivery; no specific project management method required.
• Management and coaching skills, empowering others to take ownership while providing necessary support.
• Ability to align and motivate diverse groups.
• Experience in academic or public-sector environments.
• Capable of managing multiple interconnected projects.
• Affinity with educational innovation: interest in EdTech, digital learning, and the challenges of integrating new technologies into higher education.
